About the director

Igor Ivanov Izi is a film director and writer from North Macedonia.

He began his directing career in 1993, making several short films and documentaries that were presented and awarded at film festivals worldwide.

His short film BUGS (2004) premiered in the short film competition at the Berlinale and won the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival in 2006.

Igor’s first feature film, UPSIDE DOWN (2007), premiered in the East of the West competition at Karlovy Vary, was screened at over 50 festivals, and won several awards, including Best Director at the Mostra de Valencia Film Festival. His second feature, THE PIANO ROOM (2013), had its international premiere at the Chicago Film Festival and enjoyed sold-out screenings at many festivals. His latest film, ONLY HUMAN (2020), premiered internationally at the Goa Film Festival, was screened at numerous festivals, and won ten awards.

In addition to his film work, Igor is active in TV production and commercials. He has directed the Macedonian TV series Nase Malo, Five Plus, Prespav, Insajder, and numerous commercial videos.

Igor is involved in the international film community. From 2018 to 2026 he was a

President of the Macedonian Film Professionals Association.
